Giiwednong Health Link Hosts 7th Annual EMR User Conference
The 7th Annual EMR User Conference, hosted by Giiwednong Health Link (GHL), took place on Wednesday, October 30th, 2024, at the Manitoulin Hotel and Conference Centre. Attended by over 50 participants, the one-day, in-person event featured a diverse program of presentations and discussions.
The conference began with an opening prayer and song by Geraldine Ense-McGregor, followed by welcoming remarks from GHL Executive Director Michael McGregor. The first presentation, delivered by GHL’s support team—Evan Farquhar, Jesse Beaudin, Austin Rich, and Ellie Poirier—introduced the Community Portal Project, a new online tool showcasing health centre stats, quality assurance data, and EMR usage metrics.
Joseph Amuah from the Canadian Institute for Health Information followed, presenting on using EMR data to support decision-making. After a networking lunch, Leslie MacGregor from the First Nations Information Governance Centre spoke on OCAP principles, emphasizing First Nations’ ownership, control, access, and permission over health data.
The day concluded with a highly engaging Zoom presentation by Kim Knox and Laurae Kloschinsky from PEI’s health authority. Their session, “One Client, One Record: It’s Possible,” highlighted PEI’s successful unified EMR implementation and inspired attendees with insights and actionable strategies.
The event fostered meaningful discussions, offered practical insights, and showcased innovative advancements. GHL thanks all attendees and presenters for their contributions and looks forward to next year’s conference.
